New Orleans Art- French Quarter & Jazz Paintings by Diane Millsap
Newsletter ~ October 2008
Me with hubby and a fantastic performer
at the Blues Club on Bourbon Street.

A 2nd line brass band!
Architecture in Faubourg Marigny neighborhood.
I go to New Orleans to
photograph and sketch, but
we always make time to enjoy
all the things that make this
city so special:  soaking up
the atmosphere of the
centuries old buildings,
immersing ourselves in the
some of the best music in the
world, and don't forget the
gumbo and shrimp creole!

We checked out the Chartres
Street Gallery which will open
in about a month (and will
have my work on display).  It
is gorgeous, and I'm honored
to be a part of this new
venture!

We took the streetcar to
Mulate's Restaurant in the
warehouse district, walked
down sparkling Fulton Street
at night, and had a Sunday
brunch at Amelies Courtyard
which was all organic, and I
might add, delicious.

This time, I spent a lot of
time photographing in the
Marigny neighborhood, and
plan to paint this area soon.

Our visit was special this
time thanks to an artist
friend, Sherry, who spent an
afternoon with us, showing us
around and relating her
Katrina experience.  She, like
countless New Orleans
natives, is
indomitable.....restoring her
home in Uptown and
capturing the city with her
wonderful photographs.

For those of you who live in
the South,
Bed, Bath and
Beyond
will be offering more
of my New Orleans prints this
year.
I couldn't pass up this
shot of a leaning
lamp post on Bourbon
Street!
I want to thank all of you
    who send me
    encouragement and
    welcome us when we come
    to New Orleans.  You
    always make us feel at
    home, and your support
    makes this artist's life so
    full.    - Diane
